Are You A People Pleaser…

By Georgia (Jo) Kent

“For I am now seeking the approval of man or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ”. Galatians 1:10

Do you feel the need to please everyone all the time? Is it difficult to say ‘no’ when someone asks you a favor, even if it causes you to put God or yourself last? We are told in scripture not to become a slave to man. People pleasing brings you into bondage. You become addictive to the approval of others. You find yourself saying ‘yes’ to everything that is ask of you. This is often caused from a lack of self esteem and the need for acceptance. We become easily manipulated by the same people that we try so hard to please. There is no righteousness in that. Jesus warns us that when we do things for the purpose of being seen in other people, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

“You were bought with a price; do not be a slave of men”. 1 Corinthians 7:23

Where is the balance? There is a difference between helping others and serving others. It takes an understanding of Gods word. Yes, God teaches us to love one another, but…God first and then man. God has to be first in our lives. We do that by being in his word, praying and obeying all of his commandments. Always please God first, ask him to show you how to discern the difference between helping others and serving others.

And he answered, “You shall love The Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself”. Luke 10:27

Sweet Blessings
