Worth Waiting For…

By Georgia (Jo) Kent

“In the beginning God made them male and female and said for them to be married.” Matthew 19-4

I am blessed to have wonderful granddaughters that are beautiful and sweet and are nearing the age of marriage. Now, in my seasoned age of sage wisdom 🙂 I wondered how to best give them good council concerning what the word teaches us about a Godly marriage. This scripture keeps coming to my spirit…

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14

As a side note, this command was not given for marriage however, it certainly applies to it. What does unevenly yoked really mean? First, I am sure that God would not put his holy stamp of approval on dating relationships or marriages compromised of a believer and a non-believer. Marriages today can not make it without Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 God tells us what virtues to look for in a mate. Remember this scripture and apply it to the person that you are hoping to marry.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no records of wrongs. love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

These vertues serve to make a wonderful companian…Serves God, Is patient, is not self centered, Polite, does not have a temper, forgiving, Loving, compassionate, protector, faithful, kind, gentle, does not hold grudges, truthful… This should be the qualities that you see in the person that you choose to marry.

Be patient and pray. Ask God to help you to know who your Mr. Right is. Wait and trust God and don’t ever settle for less then you deserve. God will give you favor and answer your prayers in his infinite timing. God loves marriage and he loves you.

“Then The Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make them a helper fit for him”. Isaiah 34:16

“An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious then jewels”. Proverbs 3:10
